1861 Elkhart County Map
Available for Purchase at the
Elkhart County Historical Museum

Rivers and railroad tracks running through colored township boundaries, names of pioneer property owners, and line drawings illustrating some of the outstanding architecture of Elkhart County in 1861 are a few of the eye-catching features found on the county’s oldest map. Essentially a work of art, the map has recently been reproduced by the Elkhart County Historical Society and copies can be purchased by the public for the first time in over 140 years. The 1861 plat map of Elkhart County was photographed then digitally reproduced and copies are now available in a 25 by 30 inch color print format. Each of the 700 maps printed is individually numbered. The map prints are suitable for framing and are also of use to genealogists and local history buffs.

The maps are available for $12 each and they can be purchased at the museum or ordered by mail for an additional $8. An index listing the property owners found on the map is available for an additional $10. Maps are also available for sale at the Elkhart County Park Administration office in Goshen. The museum is open free of charge Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Sunday 1 p.m. - 5 p.m..
